Public Interest Law Gathering – PILG 2018

3rd September 2018 - 5th September 2018

The 8th Annual Public Interest Law Gathering (PILG)

The Public Interest Law Gathering (PILG), a grouping of legal non-governmental organisations (NGOs) that promote public interest law, access to justice and human rights, will host its eighth annual event on 3-5 September 2018 in Johannesburg.

PILG started in 2011 and has grown significantly since then, becoming an important date on calendars of people and groups interested in social justice and public interest law. The Gathering attracts a wide range of stakeholders, including public interest
attorneys and advocates, private legal professionals, representatives from Chapter Nine institutions, members of the judiciary, funders, representatives from non-governmental and community-based organisations, students, academics and others interested in engaging with topical issues and expert panellists in the broad field of public interest law.

Project Goals

The Public Interest Law Gathering is an inclusive conference for
practitioners and others interested in public interest law in South Africa.
It aims to:

* Create a networking space for public interest law practitioners,
activists, affected groups and individuals, academics, human rights
journalists, funders, aspiring lawyers and law students

* Facilitate collaboration between public interest law groups in South Africa

* Create an opportunity for engagement with experts and
practitioners on developments in public interest law and practice.
